# Why is there no cross-device matching?

**Can Metrunio tell that someone clicked on mobile and bought on a laptop?**

Only when a shared, unambiguous identifier exists, for example a pseudonymised customer number after signing in. Probabilistic matching through device characteristics deliberately does not exist.

Cross-device attribution is possible exactly where it can be evidenced: if the same person signs in on both devices and you pass the customer number, Metrunio links the visits through the hash derived from it.

Without such an attribute the result is two separate journeys. The alternative would be to compute a probability from IP range, screen size and timing and report it as fact. We do not.

> **Note:** The consequence is visible and intended: a share of conversions stays “unattributed”. That number is in the report and is itself a statement about coverage.
