# What is the event quota?

**What happens if I exceed my event volume?**

Every plan includes an event quota that is visible in the product at all times. Every four delivered impressions count as one event; viewability reports and test events do not count. The check happens per batch, and each instance of the intake writes its counter every five seconds. At the limit, a few seconds’ worth of events more can therefore be accepted.

- The current figure and the expected overage are visible in the portal, not only on the invoice.
- Test events (environment test) do not count.
- Rule of thumb for the website: visits plus page views plus orders and leads. Every visit starts with one event, every page view is one, and so is every order or lead; anything else your setup reports, such as the cart, comes on top. Visitors who decline consent send nothing, so the rule of thumb tends to sit above your figure. After a week of measurement, “Plan & usage” shows how many it is for you.
- Delivered impressions count in bundles: every four make one event. They are counted across the whole month, across all websites and, for an agency, across all client accounts; a bundle that is not full at the end of the month does not count.
- The viewability report for a delivery is stored but does not count at all.
- Under “Plan & usage” you can see how many delivered impressions are in your usage and how many events they count as.
- Duplicate events count once; deduplication happens through the event ID.
- Funnel steps (goal) are events like any other and count, even though a step counts as a conversion only once per customer. The same event ID counts once; an event ID built from customer and step keeps repeats out of the quota.
- The check happens per batch and counting is bundled: each instance of the intake writes its counter every five seconds and until then checks against the last value it read plus its own increase. At the limit, a few seconds’ worth of events more can therefore be accepted, for the monthly quota as for the per-minute limit, including on the free plan. Nothing is charged for it there.
- On the paid plans, every started 10,000 events above the allowance cost €3. A plan never costs more than the next plan up would cost at the same volume.
- From six million events a month, any paid plan keeps measuring only once you have consented in the portal to arranging an individual plan.
- On the free “Start” plan nothing is billed: there the limit simply holds.
- During the trial, measurement continues above the allowance and nothing is charged. That applies to any month the trial falls in, including the days after it ends.
- If you pay through Shopify, the same rate and the same cap apply; the amount lands on your Shopify bill.
- At 80, 95 and 100 per cent of the allowance the admins receive an email; for an agency’s client accounts, the agency does. In the portal a note appears from 80 per cent, a warning from 95 per cent.
- You can hide the notice on the overview for yourself as long as measurement continues. It comes back as soon as the situation changes: at the next threshold, on another plan or in a new month. If the free plan rejects further events, it is shown in red and stays.

> **Note:** If you regularly reach the limit, first check whether unnecessary events are being sent, for example double page views because your page calls page() while automatic page views are switched on. Only when the volume is genuinely needed is a plan change worth it.

## How many events your shop needs

- Every page view is one event. On top of that, each visit sends the start of the session once.
- An order is one event. Depending on the shop integration, steps before it are added, such as product view, cart and checkout, and a refund is one more event.
- Interactions, funnel steps and leads you measure in addition count as one each.
- Delivered ad impressions count as one event per four.

How many events a visit or an order produces depends on how many pages are viewed and what else you measure. The reliable figure is the measured one under “Plan & usage” after the first few days. During the trial an overshoot costs nothing, so you can measure first and choose the plan afterwards.
