# How do I activate the Metrunio app embed in Shopify?

**Why does Metrunio say the app embed is not active in my Shopify theme?**

The “Metrunio Tracking” block measures visits on your storefront and has to be switched on in the published theme; only you can do that, in the theme editor. The button in the notice in the Metrunio app opens the editor at exactly that spot; you switch the block on and save. While it is off, orders arrive but visits do not, and every order stays “not attributed”.

The Metrunio app measures in three places. It sets up the checkout pixel and orders itself when you connect. The third place, the storefront, depends on a block in your theme: the “app embed”. Shopify does not let apps flip that switch themselves; it is reserved for you.

## Switching it on

1. Open the Metrunio app in your Shopify admin.
2. In the notice at the top, choose “Turn on app embed”. The theme editor opens in a new tab with “Metrunio Tracking” already selected.
3. Switch the block on and choose “Save”.
4. Go back to the app and reload the overview. It reads the theme again and shows “On”.

You can also do it by hand: “Online Store → Themes”, “Customize” on the published theme, the “App embeds” icon on the left, switch on “Metrunio Tracking” and save.

> **Note:** The button leads into the theme editor of the published theme, opened at the app embeds, through an address of the form admin.shopify.com/store/<your-store>/themes/current/editor?context=apps&activateAppId=… It changes nothing by itself; nothing is saved until you save.

## What the notices mean

| Shown in the app | Meaning | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| On | The block is switched on in the published theme. | nothing |
| Off | The block is missing from the published theme or switched off. The storefront is not measuring. | switch it on as above |
| Can’t check | The app could not read the theme, for example because Shopify did not respond. This says nothing about the block. | reload the overview later, or check in the theme editor yourself |

Only “Off” also appears in the Health Center in the portal, as a finding with the code SHOPIFY_APP_EMBED_INACTIVE. “Can’t check” is not reported there: Metrunio does not claim a problem nobody has seen.

## When the app checks

- every time you open its overview,
- when you publish a different theme,
- when Shopify reports a change to a theme.

> **Caution:** When you publish a new theme, the embed starts out switched off there: it belongs to the theme, not to the store. Switch it on again in the new theme.

What counts is always the published theme. A block switched on in an unpublished draft measures nothing while nobody sees that draft.
