# Which currency do my reports use?

**I sell in euros and francs. How are the amounts added up?**

In the currency you choose under “Settings”: euro by default, or your store’s currency for an account created through the Shopify app. Orders and ad spend in other currencies are converted using the European Central Bank reference rate: orders at the rate of their order date, ad spend at the rate of its cost date. The rate used stays stored with the order and the cost row, so a report on last month shows the same figure tomorrow as it does today.

## Where the rates come from

From the European Central Bank. It publishes its reference rates daily, free of charge and verifiable by anyone. We do not use a commercial rate service: with the ECB rates, every conversion in your reports can be recalculated from public figures.

> **Note:** A reference rate is not the rate your payment provider settled at. What arrived in your account may differ: we convert, we do not book.

## Which rate applies to which day

The most recent rate published on or before the order date. The ECB publishes on banking days: for an order on Sunday, Friday’s rate applies. That is not an approximation but the correct answer. There is no rate on a Sunday.

## Ad spend

Since 12 October 2026, ad spend is converted the same way: each cost row, meaning one campaign on one day, at the rate of its cost date. This applies to costs from a connected ad account, from the CSV import and from manual entry. ROAS, CPA and CAC therefore divide amounts in the same currency. Before that, costs in different currencies were added up without a rate: 100 francs and 100 euros showed as 200 euros.

One exception is “Platform reconciliation”: it shows the value a platform reports itself in the ad account’s currency, so you can compare it with the figure in that platform’s interface. The page says which column is in which currency.

## When no rate is available

Then that order’s amount is missing from every total, but the order is still counted. How many are affected is shown where the amount is missing: on the “Overview” below measured and attributed revenue, under “Commerce” above the metrics, under “Customer journeys” next to the value, in an experiment under revenue, under “Orders & goals” with the funnel and in “Platform reconciliation” below the table. A revenue alert states their number in its message. Using a factor of 1 would mean treating 200 francs like 200 euros. That would be the quietest way to falsify a figure. Rates are fetched daily and filled in afterwards; if the number stays, the ECB does not publish a rate for that currency.

The same applies to ad spend: costs without a rate are missing from ad spend and from every figure calculated from it. ROAS then reads too high, CPA and CAC too low. On how many days this is the case is shown on the “Overview” below the key figures, under “Attribution” and “Budget” above the table, and under “Commerce” above the metrics and with the cohorts. If every cost row in a period lacks a rate, CPA, CAC and ROAS show the reason instead. An ad spend alert states the days in its message.

> **Note:** Metrunio fetches the rates for the last 90 days every day and keeps them. If orders or ad spend in another currency date from before the first fetch, for example from an import of last year, Metrunio loads the complete ECB history since 1999 once and adds the rates on the next daily run. Only what the ECB does not publish stays without a rate for good.

## If you change the currency

If you change the currency, Metrunio converts the existing orders and ad spend into the new currency at the rate of their respective day. Totals across the change are then in one currency throughout. Days without a rate are treated as above: the amounts are missing until the rate is added.

> **Note:** If you sell in only one currency and it is the same as your reporting currency, no conversion takes place at all. The normal case does not need the rates.
