How do I connect Google Tag Manager?
You add the “Metrunio Tracking” template from the Tag Manager template gallery or download it as a file in “Setup”. You create a tag from it, enter site ID and write key, choose the trigger “Initialization - All Pages” and publish. This route needs no change to your website’s source code.
How do I install Metrunio through Google Tag Manager?
- 01In your container under “Templates”, add the “Metrunio Tracking” template from the gallery, or download it in “Setup” and import it there.
- 02Create a tag based on the template and enter the write key. The file from “Setup” already contains the site ID and the collector address; with the template from the gallery you enter the site ID as well.
- 03Choose the trigger “Initialization - All Pages”.
- 04Save, check in preview, then publish.
Caution
Without publishing, the tag is only active in preview. That is by far the most common reason for no data arriving.
Gallery or file
Both templates measure the same way. The gallery one always loads the script from collect.metrunio.com; Google reviews every version, and a customer address cannot be in it. The file from setup loads it from your website’s address, including your own measurement domain. If you use one, take the file.
Consent in the tag manager
The tag has two checkboxes: analytics and marketing consent. Only tick them if the tag’s trigger fires after consent, for example on your consent tool’s consent event. If both stay empty, the tag reports no decision: Metrunio waits until your consent tool reports one through metrunio.setConsent and sends nothing until then. Until 24 September 2026 two empty boxes counted as a refusal; now they count as no decision, because nobody made one.
Verification
Start the live test in the portal and open your website in a new tab. The checklist shows, one after another: “Tracking script detected”, “Consent status detected”, “Session started”, “Page view received”. These checks only turn green when your website itself sends. A click on “Send a test event” shows up as “Test event received”; it proves that processing works, not that the tag measures.

- No data after setup? Check these six points
No data arrives after installation. What do I check?
First: is the data processing agreement concluded? Without it Metrunio accepts nothing, and the portal shows “Measurement paused: DPA missing.”. If it is concluded, the GTM container is usually not published, consent is missing or the domain is not in the allowed list; these six steps cover the most common causes.

Which consent tools behind my cookie banner are supported, and how do I map the categories?
In “Setup” you select your consent tool, the tool behind your cookie banner; for the common systems the categories are pre-filled. Other CMPs and custom consent APIs can be mapped freely.

How do I install Metrunio without a tag manager?
The finished code block is in the portal under “Setup → Snippet” and contains site ID and collector address. You see the write key only once, when it is created; if it is no longer known, the code carries the placeholder YOUR_WRITE_KEY and a button next to it creates a new one. The block belongs immediately before the closing head tag and loads asynchronously.
