How do I keep test and production data apart?

Metrunio keeps them apart itself, so your tests do not distort the reports: every event from the assistant and the live test carries the environment “test” and is excluded from standard reports. In “Setup” you delete all test data with “Reset test data”; first it shows you what will disappear.

Do my tests distort the reports?

  1. 01Every event from the assistant and the live test gets the environment “test”.
  2. 02Standard reports show production data only.
  3. 03You can look at test data deliberately under “Customer journeys”, “Orders & goals”, “Channels & attribution” and “Events”, each with the “Show test data” switch (under “Orders & goals”: “Test data”).
  4. 04In “Setup”, choose “Reset test data”. You first see how many test events, test journeys and test identities will disappear, then confirm with “Delete permanently”. Production data stays untouched.

Test events do not count towards your plan’s event quota. You can test as often as you need to.

How do I check that a conversion arrives correctly?

The setup assistant has a step called “Run a test conversion”. It creates a test purchase with a test visit before it, both stored as test data: they appear immediately in the live checklist, the journey shows an attributed touchpoint, and they stay excluded from standard reports.

  • Which reports are available?

What can I analyse in the portal?

The reports are in the sidebar: Overview, Customer journeys, Channels & attribution with its breakdown and model comparison, Orders & goals, plus Check budget, Platform reconciliation, Data status and Events, among others. In the period row at the top you choose the period and the model and, once your account measures more than one website, the website.

  • Only test data is arriving. What is missing?

Setup is complete but the reports stay empty. Why?

The test events from the setup assistant prove that your account, the processing and the reports work, but not that your website is measuring. Until an event from the “production” environment arrives, every standard report stays empty and “Setup” reports the finding ONLY_TEST_EVENTS.
