  • How do I connect Google Tag Manager?

How do I install Metrunio through Google Tag Manager?

You add the “Metrunio Tracking” template from the Tag Manager template gallery or download it as a file in “Setup”. You create a tag from it, enter site ID and write key, choose the trigger “Initialization - All Pages” and publish. This route needs no change to your website’s source code.

  • How do I install the code snippet?

How do I install Metrunio without a tag manager?

The finished code block is in the portal under “Setup → Snippet” and contains site ID and collector address. You see the write key only once, when it is created; if it is no longer known, the code carries the placeholder YOUR_WRITE_KEY and a button next to it creates a new one. The block belongs immediately before the closing head tag and loads asynchronously.

  • How do I set up Metrunio in Shopify?

How do I connect my Shopify store to Metrunio?

You install the Metrunio app in your store via its installation link: from the setup assistant in the portal or from our email. If you do not have a Metrunio account yet, the app creates one without a second sign-up once you accept the terms and conclude the data processing agreement with two tick boxes; an existing account you connect by signing in to the portal. Measurement starts only once the DPA is concluded, and then covers storefront, checkout and order at once, with no change to your theme code.

  • Does Metrunio slow down my shop?

How much does the tracking script slow down my page?

The tracking script loads asynchronously, alongside your page, and does not hold up its rendering. About 10.4 KB are transferred with Brotli or 11.6 KB with gzip, after which it sits in the browser cache. The consent bridge, another 10 KB or so, loads only if you connected a consent tool through it, and before the decision in the cookie banner the script sends nothing.

  • How do I activate the Metrunio app embed in Shopify?

Why does Metrunio say the app embed is not active in my Shopify theme?

The “Metrunio Tracking” block measures visits on your storefront and has to be switched on in the published theme; only you can do that, in the theme editor. The button in the notice in the Metrunio app opens the editor at exactly that spot; you switch the block on and save. While it is off, orders arrive but visits do not, and every order stays “not attributed”.

  • How do I set up Metrunio in Shopware 6?

How do I install and connect the Metrunio plugin for Shopware?

You install the “Metrunio” plugin in Shopware 6, click “Connect to Metrunio” in its settings and confirm the website in the portal. From then on the plugin measures visits, takes the consent decision from your consent tool and reports orders, cancellations and refunds straight from the shop server.

  • How do I report purchases through Stripe or PayPal?

Can Metrunio take purchases straight from Stripe or PayPal without me writing code?

Without writing code, on every plan: under “Data connections → Payment providers” you add a connection and enter the address Metrunio gives you as a webhook at Stripe or PayPal. Purchases and refunds then come from the payment provider; a purchase is attributed if it carries the reference from the SDK.

  • How do I set up Metrunio in WordPress and WooCommerce?

How do I install and connect the Metrunio plugin for WordPress?

You install the “Metrunio” plugin in WordPress, click “Connect to Metrunio” under “Settings → Metrunio” and confirm the website in the portal. From then on the plugin measures visits and takes the consent decision from your consent tool. With WooCommerce it also reports orders, cancellations and refunds straight from the server.

  • Where do I install tracking in my shop system?

How do I install Metrunio in WordPress, Shopify, Shopware or Webflow?

For Shopify, Shopware 6 and WordPress with WooCommerce there is an extension that measures visits, consent and orders at once. The other systems have a place for custom head code; the table names the route per system. Without an extension, we additionally recommend the Server Events API for purchases, because it works independently of the browser.

  • How do I report conversions server-side?

How do I send events from my shop, CRM or backend?

Through POST /v1/server/events to the collector, with the server key in the authorization header. The portal shows the address and the ready-made call for your website under “Setup” on the “Server Events API” tab. The call is independent of the browser and therefore robust against ad blockers and short-lived cookies.

  • How do I sign server-side requests?

How does the HMAC signature and replay protection work?

Send the header x-metrunio-signature with a timestamp and an HMAC-SHA256 over "<timestamp>.<raw body>", computed with the server key. The time window is five minutes and each signature is accepted exactly once.

  • Can my system report conversions by webhook?

When do I use the webhook instead of the Server Events API?

The endpoint POST /v1/webhooks/conversions is meant for systems that fire a webhook of their own rather than letting you program an API call. It always requires a valid signature.

  • Can Metrunio notify my system?

How do I get new orders, refunds and alerts into my CRM by webhook?

By webhook, from Growth: under “Data connections → Webhooks” you enter an https address and choose the events. Metrunio calls it for every new order or lead, refund, alert and completed cost sync, signed. It carries no browser or customer identifier, but it does carry the order or lead identifier, value and time, and these can be personal data.

  • What does the tracking SDK offer?

    Which JavaScript calls are available?

The SDK provides init, setConsent, page, track, identify, conversion, goal and reset, plus paymentReference for Stripe and PayPal, fillForm for forms, and renderSurvey and survey for the post-purchase question. It loads asynchronously, queues calls made before it loads, and sends events in batches.

  • How do I measure a single-page app?

What do I do if route changes without a reload are not counted?

With automatic page views (autoPageviews, on by default) the SDK also counts route changes without a reload: it notices every address change through pushState, replaceState and the back button. Call metrunio.page() yourself only if your router switches views without changing the address, or if you have turned autoPageviews off.

  • Why do I have to allow domains?

What does DOMAIN_NOT_ALLOWED mean and how do I add a domain?

The write key is visible in your page source; to stop a foreign website using it in its visitors’ browsers, the collector checks the origin of the request. If the domain is not in the allowed list, the event is rejected with DOMAIN_NOT_ALLOWED. A request from outside a browser is not stopped by this check, so it is best to report purchases from your server as well.

  • How do I fix a double installation?

What does it mean if tracking loads twice?

Usually the snippet is installed in addition to a GTM tag. Metrunio catches this: the second load hands over to the tracking that is already running, so nothing counts twice and no call is lost. Remove one of the two anyway and clear the cache; if they name different websites, Metrunio only measures for the one that loads first.

  • How do I send cart, new customers and margin from my shop?

How do I pass line items, the net value, the cost of goods and whether it was a new customer?

On checkout, tracker.conversion(…) and the Server Events API also accept newCustomer, the breakdown of the order value (netValue, taxValue, shippingValue, discountValue, costOfGoods) and the cart line items (items). All fields are optional; without them Metrunio measures as before. With them you get new-customer cost, contribution margin and product-level reporting.

  • How do refunds reach Metrunio?

How do I report a refund, and how can I tell that it has been applied?

Your shop server reports a refund through the Server Events API as refund, with the same order number, environment and currency as the purchase. Metrunio then reduces the value of that order. If it finds no matching purchase for 24 hours, it does not apply the refund and deletes it. Under “Data status”, the finding REFUND_WITHOUT_PURCHASE then counts how many there were per website and day, without order numbers.

  • How do I measure over my own domain?

How do I set up a custom measurement domain so ad blockers cost me less data?

In “Setup” you enter a name such as gauge.your-domain.com, and Metrunio gives you three DNS records at once (two CNAME and one TXT). Once they are in place and a certificate has been issued for your name, the address goes live; with the snippet or Tag Manager you then switch your setup, while the Shopify app and the plugins for Shopware and WordPress switch themselves. Measurement then runs first-party and is cut less often by ad blockers and browser tracking protection.

  • How do I report a funnel step?

How do I send the steps of my funnel from the browser or the backend?

In the browser with metrunio.identify(userId) once after sign-in and then metrunio.goal('key') per step; from the backend with POST /v1/server/events and an event of type goal carrying goal_key and user_id. Both routes are equivalent; a step without a customer identifier is rejected.

  • How does the origin of an enquiry get into my CRM?

Can Metrunio write source, campaign and an identifier into my contact form?

Through your form, on every plan: give it the attribute data-metrunio-lead, and with consent to analytics the SDK fills the fields metrunio_lead_id, metrunio_source, metrunio_medium, metrunio_campaign, metrunio_click_id and metrunio_click_platform; without consent they stay empty unless you switch on “Source without consent as well” for the site. With the lead ID, the offline import finds the later deal from your CRM in the journey.

  • How do I check on my website what the tracking script does?

Is there a debugger for tracking right on the website?

Use the debug panel. Under “Setup → Live test” you create a debug link that is valid for one hour. Open your website with it, and a panel in the top right shows whether the script runs, what the consent status is, which events it sent and how Metrunio responded. Only people who open the link see it.

  • Do click IDs get lost in a redirect?

How do I check whether gclid, fbclid and UTM parameters reach my website?

The tracking checker on the website at /en/tracking-checker shows you, without an account: it calls your address with test values for gclid, fbclid, msclkid, ttclid and the UTM parameters, follows up to five redirects and shows at which one a value gets lost. It also names the consent tool and tracking tags found in the page’s HTML.

  • How do I connect Klaviyo or Brevo?

How do I get the numbers of my newsletters from Klaviyo or Brevo next to the measurements in Metrunio?

With an API key from your account under “Data connections → Newsletters”. Metrunio then reads recipients, deliveries and unique clicks per send every day and shows them in the “Newsletters” report next to measured visits and attributed orders or leads. If the section is missing, the integration is not yet enabled for your account.
