Installation
How do I send the installation to my developer or agency?
In the setup wizard under “Install & check” and in the setup of your website, click “Send the installation to someone else”, enter the email address and choose the installation method and language. The person receives the code or instructions with site ID and write key, plus a link to an installation page with a live test that is valid for 14 days and that you can withdraw at any time. Metrunio never puts a secret server key in the email.
How do I hand the Metrunio installation over to someone else?
The person who sets up Metrunio is often not the one who adds the code. An agency looks after the website, the shop has a developer, and a relaunch or a new agency brings someone new. Instead of copying code and keys into an email of your own, you send the installation from within Metrunio.
How to send the installation
- 01Open the setup wizard at “Install & check” or the setup of your website.
- 02Click “Send the installation to someone else”.
- 03Enter the email address and, if you like, a short message without links.
- 04Choose the email language (German, English, Spanish or French) and the installation method. Your portal language and the method you chose are preselected.
- 05Click “Send”. Below it you then see “Installation sent to … on …”.
What the email contains
- Who is sending: your name and your company. Replies to the email go to you.
- Your message.
- For the code snippet, the finished code with site ID and write key; for Tag Manager, the values for the template; for Server API, Shopify, Shopware and WordPress, short instructions.
- The link to the installation page and the date until which it is valid.
For the snippet and Tag Manager, every handoff creates its own write key “Handoff to <address>”. Your existing key stays as it is; code that is already running keeps measuring.
The installation page
The page opens without sign-in and follows the language of the email. It shows the instructions and code for the chosen method with copy buttons, the GTM template or the plugin to download, and a live test for exactly this website: script detected, consent detected, page view, order or lead, and processing. The page only reads and sends no test events. Figures, other websites and settings of your account are not shown there.
With Shopify, Shopware and WordPress, the last step, connecting, asks for a sign-in to your Metrunio account. Agree on the moment briefly, or invite the person under “Team & roles”.
The server key
The secret server key is never in the email. If you are an admin, you can tick for the Server API method that the installation page shows a new server key exactly once. It is only created at the moment the person fetches it there, and it is named “Handoff to <address>”. After that the page never shows it again. Without the tick, the email says the key will come another way.
Withdrawing and sending again
- “Withdraw” makes the installation page invalid immediately. A write key from the handoff that has not sent anything yet is revoked with it. If it has already sent data, it stays valid so the website keeps measuring; you can revoke it in the setup in the list of keys.
- “Send again” sends a new link with a new key to the same address. The previous link then no longer works.
Who may send, and how often
Admins and the Analysis role may send; only admins can release the server key. An account sends at most ten handoffs in 24 hours; this keeps anyone from using your account to send emails to other people’s addresses. Every handoff, withdrawal and shown server key is recorded in the audit log, with only the domain of the address.
What happens to the address
Metrunio uses the address only for this handoff. The message is deleted as soon as the handoff ends, by expiry or withdrawal. The address then stays in the list for another 30 days so you can send again, and is then deleted; in the name of a key that keeps measuring, only its domain remains.
Legal note
Draft: the address belongs to a person outside your account. Only enter addresses of people who handle the installation for you and expect the email. Whether your privacy policy needs to mention this handoff is for you to clarify with your data protection advisor.

The finished code block is in the portal under “Setup → Snippet” and contains site ID and collector address. You see the write key only once, when it is created; if it is no longer known, the code carries the placeholder YOUR_WRITE_KEY and a button next to it creates a new one. The block belongs immediately before the closing head tag and loads asynchronously.

How do I install Metrunio through Google Tag Manager?
You download the “Metrunio Tracking” template as a file in “Setup” and import it into your container, without any change to your website’s source code. You create a base tag from it, enter the write key, choose the trigger “Initialization - All Pages” and publish. For leads, goal steps and purchases you add more tags of tag type “Conversion” from the same template.
- How do I report conversions server-side?
How do I send events from my shop, CRM or backend?
Through POST /v1/server/events to the collector, with the server key in the authorization header. The portal shows the address and the ready-made call for your website under “Setup” on the “Server Events API” tab. The call is independent of the browser and therefore robust against ad blockers and short-lived cookies.
- Where do I find the site ID, write key and server key?
Which key goes where, and which one may be public?
Site ID and write key are in the portal under “Setup” and belong in the browser tracking code. You create the server key in “Setup” on the “Server Events API” tab with “Create server key”; it is secret, belongs only in your backend and is shown in full only when it is created. Read keys for Claude and your own analyses are under “Exports & AI connections”, in the “API access” section.
- Which roles exist and what may they do?
Who is allowed to do what in the portal?
There are three roles inside a tenant (Admin, Analysis and Read only) plus two platform-side roles. Every API route checks the permission server-side; hiding things in the interface is only the display of that.
- How do I rotate or revoke a key?
What do I do if a key was published by accident?
You renew the write key and the server key in “Setup”, the server key on the “Server Events API” tab, where you can also revoke it. Read keys are revoked under “Exports & AI connections”, in the “API access” section, where you also create a new one. A new key is shown in full only once, and the old one stops working immediately.
