Campaigns and measurement
How do I structure channels and campaigns?
The structure has five levels: channel, campaign, ad group, ad, creative. Channel and campaign are required; you only create the deeper levels if you want to evaluate at that level.
Which levels exist, and how deep do I need to model them?
| Level | Example | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Channel | display, social, search, newsletter | yes |
| Campaign | Summer 2026 | yes |
| Ad group | cart retargeting | no |
| Ad | banner 300×250 variant A | no |
| Creative | motif “beach photo” | no |
| Placement | environment or site of delivery | no |
Rule of thumb: create a level when you have a question that can only be answered at that level. A structure nobody maintains produces gaps rather than insight.
Note
For the automatic cost sync a campaign should carry the ad platform’s campaign ID as its external ID. You enter it when creating the campaign under “Campaigns” or later with “Change ID”; quickest is “Unmatched campaigns” under “Data connections”, where the ID is already shown. Without an ID, matching falls back to the name, which changes when someone renames the campaign. A campaign carries exactly one ID.

Where do I get the pixel, viewability tag and click URL?
Under “Campaigns” you create the structure and let the elements be generated. You never have to assemble tracking parameters yourself: the generator delivers finished code with installation instructions.

Can Metrunio fetch cost directly from Meta and Google Ads?
Under “Data connections” you connect an ad account, and Metrunio fetches daily cost per campaign on its own, first a few minutes after connecting, then about every six hours and retroactively, because the platforms revise their figures. “Fetch now” on the card requests an extra fetch in between. For Google Ads and Meta you sign in; for TikTok, LinkedIn and Microsoft Advertising you enter an access token, which is stored encrypted.
- Which reports are available?
What can I analyse in the portal?
The reports are in the sidebar: Overview, Customer journeys, Channels & attribution with its breakdown and model comparison, Orders & goals, plus Check budget, Platform reconciliation, Data status and Events, among others. In the period row at the top you choose the period and the model and, once your account measures more than one website, the website.
