COMPARISON

What Metrunio is and what it does not replace.

You compare against what you already have. Usually that is GA4. Here is where the difference lies, and where there is none.

01 / SIDE BY SIDE

Four tools, four jobs.

Every cell about someone else’s tool carries its source below the table: the provider’s own page, with the date we retrieved it. What is not there is not here either: where a provider source is missing, the claim is struck. None of this is a statement about the quality of the other tools; most of them do their own job well. We compare the publicly described standard offers: GA4 in its free edition (not Analytics 360), Matomo Cloud and On-Premise, and the reports in Google Ads and Meta. Sources retrieved between 1 September and 14 October 2026.

WITHOUT CONSENT

Without consent, Metrunio creates no identifier, and without an identifier there is neither a journey nor an attribution. Orders and refunds your server reports without consent still count towards revenue for reconciliation, with their order number and without browser, customer or advertising identifiers; after a refusal in the banner only with an activated additional instruction. No model fills in what is missing. You see it in two figures: the attribution rate, the share of orders and leads with a measured contact before them, and post-view coverage, the share of viewable impressions that are provably linkable to a visit to the shop.

Why Metrunio does not measure without consent

Who touches the data, where it is processed and on what legal basis is set out in the sub-processor list under Documents.

02 / ALONGSIDE

Web analytics is included.

On every plan, Metrunio counts page views, visits, visitors, time on site and bounce rate, per channel, page and technology, for visitors with consent. It also shows which ad contacts preceded your orders or leads and attributes them by rules you can see. From Pro, its own tag also measures the delivery and viewability of creatives. Heatmaps, session recordings and figures about visitors without consent are not part of it; if you need them, keep your analytics running alongside. The table lists Matomo on its own: Piwik PRO is a separate product with different prices and limits, and it no longer offers a free plan.

03 / WHERE WE ARE WORSE

Where another tool fits better.

  • You want heatmaps, session recordings or funnels built from pages you define yourself: Metrunio does not offer them, and that is deliberate. Web analytics shows pages, entries, exits, paths and time on site for visitors with consent, and the funnel report evaluates goal steps you report yourself (signed up, set up, first payment). If you want to see mouse movement and screen recordings, you need a tool built for that.
  • You measure an app only: a mobile measurement partner fits better; we measure web and server-side completions.
  • You need media mix modelling over years: that is a different discipline and explicitly not on our list.
  • You spend under €5,000 a month on media: setup takes just as long, but the volume rarely carries a meaningful model comparison. Start on the free plan: it shows you, for each order or enquiry, which ad contact came before it. Whether your ads pay off only shows from Pro, because that is where the ad costs sit alongside.

04 / FITS / DOES NOT FIT

Who this is built for and who it is not.

Three questions that settle more before a conversation than a feature list does. As of 16 October 2026; what changes, changes here.

Who this is built for and who it is not.
QuestionFitsDoes not fit
Channel mixDisplay, programmatic, newsletter, affiliate and your own website: wherever a tag of our own may be served. On Meta, Google and TikTok, the clicks, the journeys that follow and the match against your orders. You also want to measure ads on Meta, Google or TikTok that were only seen, or you run exclusively CTV: those platforms allow no independent tag, and we do not measure the touchpoint before the click there.
Commerce modelA shop with orders, including returns and cancellations. Order data arrives via the Shopify app, the plugins for Shopware and for WordPress with WooCommerce, the snippet or Tag Manager in the browser, the Server Events API or as CSV. Or a SaaS offering whose close comes in steps: signed up, set up, first payment; each step reported, counted once per customer. Subscriptions count with their renewals: each payment appears separately in revenue and is attributed to the channel of the first order when your server reports it with consent. No completion that can be reported as an event: pure brand communication without a measurable transaction.
Decision cycleThe purchase falls inside your click window (30 days by default, configurable).B2B with months or years between first contact and close: a window that long attributes coincidences. The same holds for SaaS with goal steps: the click window of at most 90 days limits each step on its own. A first payment after half a year stays “not attributed”, even if the “signed up” step before it was still inside the window.

A QUESTION FOR EVERY VENDOR

If someone promises you measurement without consent, ask what exactly is measured without consent and which exception under section 25 TDDDG it relies on. You may put the same question to us. Our answer is a cautious product decision: Metrunio links advertising and orders through an identifier in the browser and therefore creates it only with consent. A tool that measures differently may solve this differently.

Legal note: this does not replace legal advice. Whether an exception applies depends on the individual case and is to be reviewed before use.

05 / THE OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD

If you are evaluating Triple Whale, Northbeam or Dreamdata.

The table above compares with what most people already have. If you have already looked at attribution tools, you are comparing with something else. Here are the differences, the uncomfortable ones included.

  • We measure delivery ourselves

Triple Whale and Northbeam obtain their view data from the advertising platforms’ interfaces; Northbeam says so in its own documentation. We measure with our own tag in the creative, on the inventory that allows one.

  • We do not model where we do not measure

Where a signal is missing we do not fill it in: it says “not attributed”, and you see how large the remainder is. The three vendors named work differently: Triple Whale and Northbeam via platform data and identity matching, Dreamdata via its own tracking and a mapping of visits to companies. If you need a daily model figure across all channels, we are the wrong tool.

  • EU processing as the default

Your measurement data stays with us in the EU (Frankfurt); where logs or sub-processor access go beyond that, the sub-processor list says so. That is our choice, not a legal requirement: processing in third countries can be lawful with the safeguards of the GDPR. Ask every provider the same question: where is the data stored, and which sub-processors sit in third countries? The answer separates more sharply than a company’s address.

  • What 249 € includes and what the others charge for it

The plan with our own impression measurement and forwarding to the platforms costs 249 € a month; below it sit 79 € and a free plan to try things out. For comparison, the providers’ published prices, with source and retrieval date below this list: Northbeam from $1,500, highest listed plan $3,500; Dreamdata free and above that on request. No amount is given for Triple Whale: its pricing page names no fixed price but sets it by the shop’s annual revenue and the package; paid packages run for twelve months. Scope and volume rules differ.

06 / THE GERMAN COMPETITION

If you are evaluating Tracify, KLAR or Kickbite.

Here is how we measure, what we charge for it, and where we attribute less in a direct comparison.

  • We measure delivery, not just the visit

Our own impression and viewability tag: we see what was delivered and which of it met the viewability threshold. Where others model the contact before the click or have the platform report it, we measure it ourselves on inventory that accepts our tag.

  • Pushback to the ad platforms

From Growth onwards, measured conversions flow back via the click ID to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn and Microsoft Advertising. That decides whether your measurement improves targeting or merely describes it. Ask every vendor which platforms they send back to, and from which plan.

  • The comparable price is lower

The plan with pushback to the platforms costs 249 € a month, no setup fee; below it sit 79 € and a free plan to try things out. For comparison, the published entry prices, with source and retrieval date below this list: KLAR with attribution from €400, Kickbite from €450 on monthly billing for 100,000 sessions, Tracify from €500. Scope and volume rules differ.

The gap holds up to 1,000,000 events a month, and every four served impressions count as one event. An example with a lot of display: 10,000 € of display budget at a 5 € CPM is about 2,000,000 impressions, so about 500,000 events; with the clicks, site visits and conversions of a shop that also runs search ads, that adds up to about 800,000 events, which costs 249 € a month. Above that, overage is added, but never more than the next plan up costs at the same volume. Calculate with your own numbers

  • We will attribute less, on purpose

Where a signal is missing we do not fill it in. That is why we show an open remainder, and you see how large it is. Expect us to attribute less in a direct comparison than a tool that stitches touchpoints across devices and sessions. Ask every vendor how large their remainder is and what fills it. Check both against your orders.
