What happens when I edit an order afterwards?
Metrunio counts an order as your shop reports it at checkout. It takes the new amount when your shop server reports the order again as a purchase, with the same order number, a new event_id and order_updated_at, the time of the change. The shop integrations do not send this yet; until then the old amount stays.
I changed an order in my shop. Why does Metrunio still show the old amount?
A shop reports an order once, at checkout. If you then remove an item or change a quantity, Metrunio only learns about it when your shop server reports the order again. A second report without a time counts as already counted; that way an order delivered twice is not counted twice.
How to report the change
- As a purchase with the same order number as at checkout.
- With a new event_id. The same event_id counts as already received.
- With the new amount, the new breakdown and the new line items.
- With order_updated_at: the time of the last change in the shop, with time zone. Only a time later than the counted one changes anything; an older report that arrives later overwrites nothing.

"order_id": "12345",
"value": "19.99",
"currency": "EUR"
}What Metrunio does then
- It replaces the amount, net value, shipping, tax, discount, cost of goods and line items of the order. No second order is created.
- It recalculates the attribution, because the channel shares carry the amount.
- It records the old and the new amount. In the full export, this is in conversion_value_revisions.
Edit or refund
An edit is not a refund. If money goes back to the customer, report it as a refund, as described in “How do refunds reach Metrunio?”. But do not report the same amount twice, once as an edited order and once as a refund. Metrunio would then deduct it twice.
What is not corrected
- Orders from the browser. Only your shop server can change an order.
- Orders without consent that count through revenue reconciliation. For them, Metrunio stores only the day, not an exact time, so it cannot tell which state is newer.
- A report in a different currency than at checkout.
- Values already sent to an ad platform. The amount sent stays there.
Note
The Shopify app, the Shopware plugin and the WordPress plugin do not report changes to orders yet. If you measure through one of these integrations, the amount from checkout stays after an edit.

- How do refunds reach Metrunio?
How do I report a refund, and how can I tell that it has been applied?
Your shop server reports a refund through the Server Events API as
refund, with the same order number, environment and currency as the purchase. Metrunio then reduces the value of that order. If it finds no matching purchase for 24 hours, it does not apply the refund and deletes it. Under “Data status”, the finding REFUND_WITHOUT_PURCHASE then counts how many there were per website and day, without order numbers. - How do I report conversions server-side?
How do I send events from my shop, CRM or backend?
Through POST /v1/server/events to the collector, with the server key in the authorization header. The portal shows the address and the ready-made call for your website under “Setup” on the “Server Events API” tab. The call is independent of the browser and therefore robust against ad blockers and short-lived cookies.
- How do I send cart, new customers and margin from my shop?
How do I pass line items, the net value, the cost of goods and whether it was a new customer?
On checkout,
tracker.conversion(…)and the Server Events API also acceptnewCustomer, the breakdown of the order value (netValue,taxValue,shippingValue,discountValue,costOfGoods) and the cart line items (items). All fields are optional; without them Metrunio measures as before. With them you get new-customer cost, contribution margin and product-level reporting. - Where do I install tracking in my shop system?
How do I install Metrunio in WordPress, Shopify, Shopware or Webflow?
For Shopify, Shopware 6 and WordPress with WooCommerce there is an extension that measures visits, consent and orders at once. The other systems have a place for custom head code; the table names the route per system. Without an extension, we additionally recommend the Server Events API for purchases, because it works independently of the browser.
