Web analytics: page views, visits, time on site
Under “Web analytics” you see, on every plan, how many page views, visits and visitors your website has, how long visitors stay active and how many leave right away. You can view it per day or, for periods of up to 14 days, per hour, split by channel, page and technology. Only visitors who consented to analytics are counted; nothing is extrapolated.
What does web analytics in Metrunio show me?
How many people were in the shop yesterday, and how long did they look around? Web analytics answers that, from the same script that measures the contacts before your orders. You do not need a second installation, and it is part of every plan, including the free Start plan.
What the tabs show
| Tab | What you see |
|---|---|
| Overview | Five tiles: page views, visits, visitors, time on site and bounce rate, each next to the previous period. Below them the trend per day or per hour, visits by hour of day and a table per channel. Each row takes you to the attribution of the same channel. |
| Sources | Channel, source and campaign, expandable, with the same columns. |
| Pages | The most viewed pages, the landing pages and the exit pages, each with views, visits, time on site and exit rate. |
| Technology | Device, browser and operating system as shares. |
| Paths | The most common routes from a landing page to the next pages. |
| Real time | The visits of the last 30 minutes, refreshed every minute. |
At the top you choose website, period and channel; the selection applies to all tabs.
The terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Page view | A page that was opened, including a page change in a single-page app. Test data and detected bots are not counted. |
| Visit | Everything a browser does on your website without a break of more than 30 minutes. If someone comes back through a new campaign, a new visit starts. |
| Visitor | A browser with its random identifier in the selected period. The same person on phone and laptop counts as two visitors. |
| Active time | The time the page was open in a visible tab, at most 30 minutes per page. A tab in the background does not count. |
| Time on site | The average active time per visit; the table shows the median next to it. |
| Engaged visit | A visit with at least 10 seconds of active time, at least two page views or a conversion. |
| Bounce rate | The share of visits that were not engaged. |
| Landing page, exit page | The first and the last page of a visit, without the query part of the address. |
| Exit rate | The share of a page’s views after which the visit ended. |
The channel, source and campaign of a visit come from its first event, by the same rule as the contacts in the journey.
Per day or per hour
You can view periods of up to 14 days per hour. If you choose a longer period, the trend shows days and the switch for hours is greyed out. Days and hours run in your account’s time zone.
Only with consent
Web analytics counts what the script sends after consent to analytics. Anyone who declines is in none of these figures, and Metrunio does not add them back in. That is why the top of the section says “Measured for visitors with consent”, together with how many events in the period were not recorded for lack of consent. For days before this count existed, the figure is missing; it is not a zero.
Time on site comes from a short signal the script sends every 15 seconds while the page is visible, and once when the visitor leaves. It carries only the session, the page and the time, does not count against your event quota and is not stored as a separate event. Until the updated script sends data, time on site stays empty.
What web analytics does not show
- There are no heatmaps, no mouse movement and no session recordings. What happened during a visit is shown in a journey’s visit history, as the sequence of reported events.
- Countries are still to come. Until then, the “Technology” tab shows device, browser and operating system.
- There is no page funnel built from pages you define and no search terms from your shop search. Funnel steps your code reports are evaluated in the funnel report.
- Visits and daily figures are kept as long as your account’s journeys, the hourly figures for 15 days.
In the chat you can ask about the same figures on every plan, through MCP and the read API from Growth.

- What is a bounce?
When does a visit count as a bounce?
A visit is a bounce when it was not engaged: less than 10 seconds of active time, only one page view and no conversion. The bounce rate is the share of these visits among all visits in the period, counted for visitors who consented to analytics.
- Why do I see fewer visits than in GA4?
Why does Metrunio show fewer visits than Google Analytics?
Usually because of consent: Metrunio only counts visits from people who consented to analytics and does not add the others back in. In advanced Consent Mode, GA4 can send cookieless measurements without consent and, above a minimum amount of data, model the behaviour of those who decline. Detected bots, test data and small differences in the terms add to this.
- How does Metrunio differ from web analytics?
We already have Google Analytics. Why add Metrunio?
Metrunio has its own web analytics with page views, visits, time on site and bounce rate, counted for visitors with consent; it does not have funnels built from pages, search terms or modelled figures for visitors without consent, as GA4 offers them. Beyond that, Metrunio measures the delivery and viewability of creatives in supported environments itself and connects them traceably with the conversion. From the Pro plan it shows two models compared head to head and all seven in one table, along with the individual conversions and journeys behind them.
- Can I trace what someone did in my shop?
How do I see which pages someone viewed, even if the visit did not end in a purchase?
Every journey’s timeline shows it: each visit with its measured steps, with or without a conversion. Products viewed, cart, form, checkout and purchase stand in the sequence, and the pages viewed expand on the visit. In the journey list, “Without conversion” and “Cart without purchase” find exactly those visits.
- When does a day start in the reports?
Which time zone do reports, the chat and the APIs use?
A day runs from midnight to midnight in your account’s time zone; the default is Europe/Berlin, and you can change it under “Settings”. “The last 7 days” are seven whole calendar days including today, and a custom period includes its last day in full. The same rule applies to the overview, reports, costs, the chat, the MCP server and the read API.
- What happens without consent?
Is nothing really stored without consent?
By default, Metrunio stores nothing without matching consent, not even a raw event, and the tracking script sends nothing before a decision. One documented case differs: purchases and refunds your server reports without consent count towards measured revenue for revenue reconciliation, with their order number and without browser, customer or advertising identifiers, and are not attributed. After a refusal this only applies with an activated additional instruction. Without consent on the ad side, the click redirect passes on only the campaign, no click ID.
