INTEGRATION / SHOPIFY
From the first visit to the order, including the Shopify checkout.
The Metrunio app works at three places at once: in the theme, in the checkout and on the order. You see which ad contacts came before your orders, without touching your theme code.
01 / WHAT IT DOES
Three places, one app.
Since Shopify reworked its checkout, no custom script runs on the payment pages. A snippet in the theme therefore measures the storefront but not the completion. The app brings an app embed for the theme, a pixel for the checkout and a connection to your orders. It reports the purchase from the order, not from the browser: if someone closes the window right after paying, the revenue is still there.
If you do not have a Metrunio account yet, the app creates one, with the terms and the data processing agreement in one step. Measurement starts only once the agreement is concluded.
Where you get it
The app is not listed in the Shopify App Store at the moment. The setup assistant in the portal shows you the installation link, or we send it to you by email.
02 / SETUP
How to set it up.
- 01
Install the app via its installation link and open it in the Shopify admin.
- 02
No account yet: check company and address, tick the two boxes for the terms and the data processing agreement, and the app creates account, website and connection. Already have an account: sign in to the portal from the app and choose the website.
- 03
Enable the app embed “Metrunio Tracking” in the theme editor. The overview in the app takes you to the right place with one button.
- 04
Open your shop and add an item to the cart. The event appears in the portal within seconds.
- 05
If you like, import orders from up to two years back in the app, as a revenue baseline without attribution.
What you need
Access to the Shopify admin with the right to install apps and to enable the app embed in the theme.
03 / WHAT ARRIVES
What is measured and what is attributed.
Measured means Metrunio recorded it itself. Attributed means an attribution model has split the measured revenue across the contacts before it.
| What | From where | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Page views, product views, cart | App embed in the theme | measured |
| The steps in the checkout | Checkout pixel the app creates when connecting | measured |
| Order and refund with revenue and cart lines | Orders from Shopify, independent of the browser | measured |
| Revenue per channel and campaign | Your account’s attribution model over the measured contacts | attributed |
04 / CONSENT
Your cookie banner decides. The app reads along.
The app reads consent from Shopify’s Customer Privacy API. The cookie banner Shopify offers itself is always connected to it; for Usercentrics, Consentmanager and Cookiebot that is the normal case. So you do not choose a consent tool for the app anywhere. If no signal arrives, Metrunio assumes “unknown”, not “allowed”.
Metrunio stores orders without consent for revenue reconciliation with order number, amount and day, without browser, customer or advertising identifiers. They count in measured revenue and are not attributed to any channel. After a refusal in the banner this only applies with an activated additional instruction for revenue reconciliation. Whether this assessment holds for your shop is something to clarify with your data protection adviser.
05 / LIMITS
What the extension does not do.
- The app cannot switch on the storefront block itself; Shopify only lets you do that in the theme editor. If it is off, orders arrive but visits do not, and every order shows as unattributed in the report.
- Orders from before the installation and sales at the point of sale have no measured contacts. They count in revenue but are not attributed to any channel.
- A shop measures into exactly one website. Otherwise the same order would appear twice in the report.
- The app speaks German if your Shopify admin is set to German, otherwise English.
06 / LOAD TIME
What your shop loads on top.
The app embed loads the same measurement script as every other way to connect: about 12 KB compressed, loaded asynchronously, so it does not hold up your page. The checkout pixel runs in the sandbox Shopify provides for it, and Shopify reports the order from server to server.
07 / PRICE
What it costs.
You choose the plan directly in Shopify, and Shopify bills it with your Shopify invoice. There is a free plan; what the others cost and include is on the pricing page.
