INTEGRATION / WORDPRESS
Measure WordPress and WooCommerce, with orders straight from the server.
The Metrunio plugin adds the code to every page and takes the decision from your cookie banner. With WooCommerce it also reports orders, cancellations and refunds from the server, even when payment happens on an external payment page.
01 / WHAT IT DOES
One plugin, with or without WooCommerce.
Afterwards every page carries the code and the script that reads the decision from your banner. With WooCommerce, the plugin reports every placed order from the server: through the WooCommerce queue, retried for up to 24 hours if Metrunio cannot be reached. With consent, it attaches an identifier from the session to the order; that is how Metrunio links the purchase to the visits before it.
Without WooCommerce the plugin measures visits and ad contacts; enquiries from forms you set up as a goal step in the portal. With Polylang or WPML and one domain per language, it registers the domains of all languages when connecting.
Where you get it
The plugin is not listed in the WordPress.org plugin directory at the moment. You download it free of charge in the portal under “Setup assistant” and upload the file in WordPress.
02 / SETUP
How to set it up.
- 01
Download the plugin in the portal under “Setup assistant”, upload it under “Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin” and activate it.
- 02
Open “Settings → Metrunio” and click “Connect to Metrunio”. Sign in to the portal, choose the website and confirm.
- 03
Back in WordPress, the status line names the connected website.
- 04
Under “Consent”, check which tool the plugin has detected, or choose it yourself, and save.
- 05
Open the website in a private window, accept in the banner and visit two pages. They appear in the live test in the portal.
What you need
WordPress 6.9 or later with PHP 7.4 or later, WooCommerce 11.0 or later for orders, an account with administrator rights and a Metrunio account with a concluded data processing agreement.
03 / WHAT ARRIVES
What is measured and what is attributed.
Measured means Metrunio recorded it itself. Attributed means an attribution model has split the measured revenue across the contacts before it.
| What | From where | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Page views and the decision in the banner | Code on every page, only after the decision | measured |
| Purchase with revenue and cart, only with WooCommerce | Server, as soon as the order is placed | measured |
| Cancellation and refund, partial ones too | Server on the status change or the refund | measured |
| Revenue per channel and campaign | Your account’s attribution model, only for purchases with consent for analytics | attributed |
04 / CONSENT
WordPress has no cookie banner of its own. The plugin reads yours.
The plugin recognises Complianz, Borlabs Cookie, CookieYes, Real Cookie Banner, Cookiebot, consentmanager, CCM19 and the WP Consent API by their plugin and reads the decision from them. Usercentrics, OneTrust, Google Consent Mode and IAB TCF it reads in the browser. Before your visitors decide, the code stores and sends nothing, and the plugin itself sets no cookie.
Orders without a decision in the banner are reported by the server with the order number and without browser, customer or advertising identifiers. They count in measured revenue and are not attributed to any channel. After a refusal this only applies with an activated additional instruction for revenue reconciliation. Whether this assessment holds for your shop is something to clarify with your data protection adviser.
05 / LIMITS
What the extension does not do.
- The plugin does not report changes to an order after the purchase. A cancelled order you reopen stays refunded in Metrunio.
- Orders you create in the administration have no session and therefore no consent. They count in revenue but are not attributed to any channel.
- Order reports run through WP-Cron. On a website without visitors, or with WP-Cron switched off and no server cron job, they stay in the queue.
- With a multi-currency plugin, Metrunio converts foreign currencies at the daily rate, not at the plugin’s rate.
06 / LOAD TIME
What your shop loads on top.
The plugin loads the same measurement script as every other way to connect: about 12 KB compressed, loaded asynchronously, so it does not hold up your page. On top comes a second script that reads the decision from your banner. The server reports orders through the WooCommerce queue; that does not hold up the checkout.
07 / PRICE
What it costs.
The plugin is free. What you pay for Metrunio depends on the plan; there is a free plan, and what the others cost and include is on the pricing page.
