Getting started
Conversion via the address of the confirmation page
For the conversion with the trigger “Confirmation page”, enter the address of the page that only appears after submitting, for example /thank-you. When someone who has consented to statistics opens that page, Metrunio counts a conversion, once per visit and from the moment you save. Apart from the tracking code, you need no code for this.
How do I count an enquiry or sign-up without adding code?
- 01Open “Orders & goals” and create a conversion, for example with the template “Lead form”, “Sign-up”, “Appointment” or “Your own goal page”. In the setup assistant, choose “Sign-up via the confirmation page” for an application, or the trigger “A confirmation page is opened” for a shop.
- 02Enter the path under “Address of the confirmation page”, for example /thank-you. A full address from the address bar works too; Metrunio takes the path from it.
- 03Choose the comparison: “equals” for exactly this page, “starts with” for every page whose path begins like this, “contains” for a part anywhere in the path.
- 04Save. After one minute at most, every matching page view counts.
- 05Check it with your real page: submit the form once yourself, accept statistics in the banner and look at the live checklist in the setup.
What is compared
Metrunio compares the path of the opened page as it is stored: without the query (everything from ?) and without the anchor (from #). Upper and lower case do not matter, nor does a trailing slash. /Thank-you/?source=mail is therefore the same page as /thank-you.
| Comparison | Rule | matches | does not match |
|---|---|---|---|
| equals | /thank-you | /thank-you, /Thank-you/?source=mail | /thank-you/enquiry |
| starts with | /thank-you | /thank-you, /thank-you/enquiry, /thank-you-again | /contact/thank-you |
| contains | /thank-you | /contact/thank-you, /thank-you | /contact |
Numbers and identifiers in the path, such as /order/12345, are stored as :id. A rule with the number would never match, so the portal rejects it. Use “starts with” and the part before it, /order. The portal does not accept an address with @ either: that would be an email address, not a path.
What counts
The conversion takes the type of the template, so an enquiry for “Lead form”, “Sign-up” and “Appointment”, and the value of the definition. A fixed value is a set acquisition value and never part of revenue; the page view itself brings no value. The conversion is measured, because the page was opened. From there it works like every conversion: it is attributed to the touchpoints before it, appears in the journey and is returned to connected ad platforms as far as the visitor’s consent allows.
Limits
- Only with consent to statistics. Without it, Metrunio does not measure the page view, and no conversion is created.
- Once per visit and conversion: reloading, the back button or a second view in the same visit does not count again. A later visit by the same person counts again.
- From the moment you save: earlier page views do not become conversions afterwards. If you change the address or the comparison, the new rule applies from then on.
- Excluded pages: if the confirmation page falls under “Excluded pages”, Metrunio does not store its path, and no rule can match. For “equals” and “starts with” the portal tells you when you save; for “contains” check it yourself.
- Single-page apps: only what the SDK measures as a page view counts. If your application changes the address when it switches to the confirmation, the SDK measures the switch by itself. If it shows the confirmation without a new address, there is no page a rule could match; report the enquiry with a call instead.
- One page view, one conversion: if two rules match the same page view, the older one counts.
- Own identifier: the conversion carries an identifier that Metrunio builds from visit and goal. It does not link to your CRM. If you need that link, report the enquiry with an identifier (article “How does the origin of an enquiry get into my CRM?”).
- The button “Trigger test conversion” in the assistant sends a test enquiry, not your page. You only check the address route by opening the page yourself.
Note
If your page also reports the enquiry itself, for example with metrunio.conversion or a tag in Tag Manager, two conversions are created. Choose one of the two routes.

- How do I test my first conversion?
How do I check that a conversion arrives correctly?
The setup assistant has a step called “Run a test conversion”. It creates a test for the goal you set up: a test purchase or a test sign-up with a test visit before it, or the first step for funnel steps. Everything is stored as test data, appears immediately in the live checklist and stays excluded from standard reports. The test does not prove the installation on your website.
- How does the origin of an enquiry get into my CRM?
Can Metrunio write source, campaign and an identifier into my contact form?
Through your form, on every plan: give it the attribute
data-metrunio-lead, and with consent to analytics the SDK fills the fieldsmetrunio_lead_id,metrunio_source,metrunio_medium,metrunio_campaign,metrunio_click_idandmetrunio_click_platform; without consent they stay empty. With the lead ID, the offline import finds the later deal from your CRM in the journey. - Measuring leads, sign-ups and purchases with Google Tag Manager
How do I measure leads, sign-ups and purchases with Google Tag Manager?
Add another tag from the “Metrunio Tracking” template, set the tag type to “Conversion” and pick the kind: goal step (such as a sign-up), lead or purchase. The fields take variables from your data layer; the tag fires on the event of the action and, in tag sequencing, after the base tag. If no decision has been made in the banner yet, Metrunio drops the conversion instead of holding it back.
- How do I measure a single-page app?
What do I do if route changes without a reload are not counted?
With automatic page views (autoPageviews, on by default) the SDK also counts route changes without a reload: it notices every address change through pushState, replaceState and the back button. Call metrunio.page() yourself only if your router switches views without changing the address, or if you have turned autoPageviews off.
- Web analytics: page views, visits, time on site
What does web analytics in Metrunio show me?
Under “Web analytics” you see, on every plan, how many page views, visits and visitors your website has, how long visitors stay active and how many leave right away. You can view it per day or, for periods of up to 14 days, per hour, split by channel, page and technology. Only visitors who consented to analytics are counted; nothing is extrapolated.
- No data after setup? Check these six points
No data arrives after installation. What do I check?
First: is the data processing agreement concluded? Without it Metrunio accepts nothing, and the portal shows “Measurement paused: DPA missing.”. If it is concluded, the GTM container is usually not published, consent is missing or the domain is not in the allowed list; these six steps cover the most common causes.
